Doing what's right because it's right, not because you have to?

I keep reading those civic movements websites in America trying pressure the American government to pull the American troops out of Iraq like democracyrising.us. And a question keeps popping into my head. What if they didn't lose over 1,400 soldiers in Iraq so far? What if there were no criminals like Zarqawi killing Americans and Iraqis as well in the streets of Baghdad? would they fight so hard to stop the evil their country is doing in Iraq everyday? would they fight for the 100,000 Iraqis their troops killed or caused their death by their involvement in Iraq in the first place?
Would they fight their government for Abu Ghraib?
Are they fighting for prisoners in Guantanamo bay?
Are they fighting for Sami Al-Hajj?
Why aren't they questioning their government for this evil they're committing everyday?
